The Gig Is Up (2021)

Overview

From delivery riders and rideshare drivers to the invisible workers training artificial intelligence, millions of people around the world are caught in a radical transformation of work. Through intimate, deeply personal stories spanning multiple continents, The Gig Is Up reveals the human cost of platform capitalism. Promising freedom and flexibility, companies like Uber, Amazon and Deliveroo have created a system in which algorithms determine who works, what they earn and when they can be fired. As workers confront precarious livelihoods, corporate power and an increasingly uncertain future, they also find ways to resist. A sweeping yet intimate portrait of the people behind the digital economy, the film explores a growing global struggle over the future of work.
