Was the Light Real? (2025)

Overview

‘Was the Light Real?’ is an animation that explores the struggles of immigrants and refugees in their search for safety, hope and belonging. Through the metaphor of light, the story portrays displaced individuals seeking refuge, only to encounter rejection, prejudice, and hostility from the communities they approach. The animation aims to challenge the narratives often amplified by online “keyboard warriors” by presenting the human perspective behind immigration and displacement. By encouraging viewers to consider the experiences, fears, and sacrifices of immigrants and refugees, the film highlights the importance of empathy, understanding, and responsible conversations beyond the screen.
