Hymenophore (2024)

Overview

During the COVID-19 pandemic, artist Kristina Agelskaya returns to her native village in Chuvashia,Russia. While walking through the forest, she encounters white mushrooms growing from an old, dark tree stump. This fragile yet striking natural form becomes the starting point for a creative inquiry that ultimately leads to the creation of a contemporary art and design object. The film explores how a deep connection with one’s native landscape, attentive observation of natural processes, and the memory of place can be transformed into artistic language. Through the story behind a single artwork, HYMENOPHORE reveals a dialogue between natural form and human creativity, showing how the environment becomes a source of cultural reflection and artistic expression.
